Dynamics 365 Certifications: An overview on new Role-based Certifications and the Current Certifications (retiring)

There have been changes recently in Microsoft Certifications where the focus is shifted from Individual Technology based certifications to the Role-based Certifications. This blog post discusses the changes done in D365 Certifications.

Why Role-Based Certifications?

In this age, IT teams are looking to fill roles with professionals who have the skills to work across multiple platforms with rapidly changing tools and technology. When compared to its counterpart, role-based certifications will give you that edge and helps to get the next-level skills which make you more valuable to your team and organization.

What are the D365 Role-Based Certifications available now?

These are categorized into 3 levels: Fundamental, Associate and Expert

1. Fundamentals:

1. Microsoft Certified: Dynamics 365 Fundamentals

Required exam: MB-900: Microsoft Dynamics 365 Fundamentals

2. Associate:

D365 Customer Engagement:

1. Microsoft Certified: Dynamics 365 for Sales Functional Consultant Associate. Click here

Required exams: Exam MB-200 and Exam MB-210

2. Microsoft Certified: Dynamics 365 for Customer Service Functional Consultant Associate. Click here

Required exams: Exam MB-200 and Exam MB-230

D365 Field Service

1. Microsoft Certified: Dynamics 365 for Field Service Functional Consultant Associate. Click here

Required exams:  Exam MB-200 and Exam MB-240

D365 Marketing

1. Microsoft Certified: Dynamics 365 for Marketing Functional Consultant Associate. Click here

Required exams: Exam MB-200 and Exam MB-220

If you had noticed,  MB-200: Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement Core (beta) is a common pre-requisite for all these exams.

Apart from these,  there are 3 more exams dedicated to D365 Finance and Operations. Check below for the complete list here of D365 Certifications and there will be multiple Dynamics 365 role-based certifications coming up. Yaay!

What is a beta?

When a new certification is launched, it is a Beta stage and approximately 400 people can take the beta exam at a reduced rate (80%), it is done the first come, first serve basis.

How can I prepare for it?

You can prepare for role-based certifications with online courses, instructor-led training, or even microlearning available through Microsoft Learn – keep in mind, more training content is scheduled to be released soon. Check back often!

What happens to the existing certifications?

Most of the existing certifications retire on  June 30, 2019, including

MCSA: Microsoft Dynamics 365,

MB2-717 Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Sales,

MB2-718 Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Customer Service,

MB2-715 Microsoft Dynamics 365 customer engagement Online Deployment

and many more.

Surprisingly,

MCSE: Business Applications and

MB2-716 Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customization and Configuration

aren’t in the retiring list :).

Once the above retires, you will no longer be able to earn this certification after this date (June 30, 2019). Any certifications you earn prior to their retirement dates will continue to appear on your transcript in the Certification Dashboard.
